Mitsubishi Introduces a New Robot in its Low-Cost Series

Nov 14, 2024

New to Mitsubishi Electric’s RV-CR series of lower cost robots is the IP65-rated Melfa RV-12CRL six-axis robot, which features a 1,504 mm reach and 12 kg payload capacity. This extended reach allows the robot to access hard-to-reach areas in applications such as machine tending.

The RV-12CRL houses its cables and air hoses internally to boost end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) options with 30 pins of signal cabling. Mitsubishi Electric has also eliminated the need for encoder batteries by using its MelServo-J5 servo motors. These servo motors are known for their battery-less encoders. According to Mitsubishi Electric, these battery-less encoders “eliminate the tedious and expensive maintenance of replacing encoder batteries when they eventually wear out.”

In addition to the EOAT options enabled by the internal cabling, the higher allowable movement of inertia on the J4 and J6 axes of the RV-12CRL enable this robot to handle large tooling for applications ranging from machine tending and case packing to pick-and-place.

Safety features of the RV-12CRL are delivered via the CR800 controller, which supports all available Mitsubishi Electric’s intelligent functions, including safety monitoring.
